Scicos is a good alternative for Matlab's Simulink. The interface is quite different from 
Simulink but for those whose looking for different simulation views with different engines, this could be a good solution.It also comes with HDL toolbox which can be installed directly to the Scicos pacakage. Download toolbox HERE.
